In October, 2013, Brian R. Mildenberg, Esquire was honored with the Public Advocacy Award by the NAACP Philadelphia Branch at their annual Freedom Gala.  Mr. Mildenberg has represented the NAACP Philadelphia Branch in several high profile civil rights cases in federal court, involving racial discrimination, against the Philadelphia Police Department, the Philadelphia Fire Department, Philadelphia Fire Fighter labor organizations, and major airlines.

In an internationally nationally recognized case, the Mildenberg Law Firm represents children and parents against the Valley Swim Club in a federal class action lawsuit filed by the firm in July, 2009.  The lawsuit alleged that African American children were denied swimming privileges and subjected to racially offensive comments while swimming at the predominately white Valley Swim Club.  Ultimately, the swim club was liquidated in bankruptcy and a settlement reached whereby the funds from the sale would be distributed to the children victims of discrimination.  Read more about the case on CNN, here.

Since 2008, the Mildenberg Law Firm has regular represented the Guardian Civic League, Inc., which is the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Black Police Association, representing the League and various members in civil rights and discrimination cases.  During these cases, the law firm also represented the National Association of Black Police Officers, and Club Valiants, Inc., the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Black Professional Fire Fighters Association.  In a groundbreaking case, the Law Firm filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all Philadelphia African American police officers against a racially offensive website, domelights.com.  After the case was filed, the City of Philadelphia banned the website from use on City computers, and the website was shuttered.  Read more about this case on CNN here and here.

Although known for his work in the civil rights and discrimination law fields, Mr. Mildenberg also has substantial experience handling banking, mortgage, truth in lending, consumer protection, and bankruptcy cases.  Mr. Mildenberg was the Moderator of the Mortgage Fraud Listserv for the National Association of Consumer Advocates in 2005.  This was a national group of attorneys who were involved in litigation against lenders for predatory lending practices, under the truth in lending act, the homeownership equity protection act, and other state and federal consumer protection laws.  Mr. Mildenberg has been counsel in several national mortgage class actions that have brought substantial relief to borrowers and homeowners in Pennsylvania.  Mr. Mildenberg has handled modifications of mortgages for clients, through negotiation and litigation, and has handled millions of dollars in mortgage balances over the course of his career, and has handled hundreds of bankruptcies, including Chapter 7, 11, and 13, as well as hundreds of mortgage foreclosure and mortgage litigations in state and federal court.

In addition to his focus on civil rights and mortgage cases, Mr. Mildenberg has had the opportunity to serve specialized law enforcement agency employees, including, in the City of Philadelphia and beyond, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and federal Police Officers including members of the Amtrak Police Department, and well of the Amtrak Chapter of the National Black Police Association.

The law firm has also focused upon cases involved in aviation and airline law, and has conducted in excess of 100 airline employment law consultations.  We have handled cases for airline employees involving discrimination, sexual harassment, unfair employment and labor practices, hours and payment of wages, and security (US Customs/DHS/SITA Badge) issues.  In addition, we have defended airline employees against allegations of wrongdoing or security violations, and have assisted in obtaining monetary damages and reinstatement of employment. We also represent individuals and travelers in the airline industry, including claims on behalf of airlines passengers for violations of their rights, discrimination, negligence, personal injury, and wrongful death.

We handle general civil litigation matters, as well as consultations with individuals as to their legal rights under their own particular circumstances.  We have achieved multi-million dollar settlements for our clients.

Mr. Mildenberg’s cases have appeared in or been referenced by the CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, the Huffington Post, the Drudge Report, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Philadelphia Daily News, the Wall Street Journal, the Legal Intelligencer, the Philadelphia Business Journal, and newspapers from California to Florida, to China, Hong Kong, Great Britain, throughout the Middle East, and in several academic law journals.

Mr. Mildenberg has handled cases before all levels of courts in Pennsylvania, including the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the federal United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.  Mr.  Mildenberg has handled cases in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.), and has appeared in courts in California, Illinois, Indiana, and New Jersey.

Mr. Mildenberg has presented CLE Courses and presentations for New Jersey Legal Services, Community Legal Services of Philadelphia, the National Association of Consumer Advocates, the National Consumer Law Center, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and was featured in 2005 in the Pennsylvania Bar Journal, Pro Bono Spotlight.  In connection with his consumer protection law activities, Mr. Mildenberg received a commendation from the Philadelphia Federal Reserve.

Early in his career, Mr. Mildenberg handled hundreds of criminal defense matters, in felony and misdemeanor cases, and has handled significant numbers of family law and personal injury cases.

The Mildenberg Law Firm has not shied away from assuming representation in controversial cases against public agencies and individuals.  Just because a case is not popular does not mean that the client does not deserve legal representation.
